Weather Forecast May 4: Cyclone Fani to weaken in depression, heavy rains in Kolkata, WB, Bihar, Jharkhand and Assam

May 3, 2019 7:51 PM |

After making landfall over Odisha as an extremely severe cyclone Fani on May 3, it has now weakened significantly and is seen as deep depression over the northern parts of West Bengal and adjoining areas. Thus, we expect heavy to very heavy rains to continue over West Bengal, adjoining parts of East Bihar and East Jharkhand. Now, rain intensity will increase significantly over Assam and Meghalaya. While, rest northeastern states would receive light to moderate rains with isolated heavy spells. Rains would be light to very light over South and Interior Odisha but northern districts like Bhubaneswar, Baripada would witness scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

However, in Central India, a Cyclonic Circulation is over the northern parts of Madhya Pradesh. Thus, we expect light rain and thundershower activities over North and East Madhya Pradesh. Whereas, isolated rains will be seen over North Chhattisgarh. Weather of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Marathwada and Vidarbha would be dry and hot. A trough is seen extending from South Gujarat to North Arabian Sea. Thus, we can expect isolated light rains over Konkan and Goa. Mumbai might also receive thunderstorm or isolated light rains. Whereas, heat wave conditions would persist at isolated pockets of Vidarbha.

Up in the North, no significant weather system is prevailing over North India. Thus, we expect weather to become dry over the hills. However, remnants of Western Disturbance might give isolated light rains over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The national territory, Delhi would witness dry weather. As per the experts, temperatures would start increasing over Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.
