Cold blast from the northern plains has travelled deep south to reach Madhya Maharashtra. Twin cities of Pune and Nashik literally reeling under cold wave conditions. Close on heels of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat, which became colder than Delhi, a day prior, the automobile hub Pune and pilgrimage city Nashik chased the record together. Biting cold, which mostly gave amiss in December, has now swept the region with extreme low temperature.
Nashik did score over Pune by recording minimum of 6.3°C as against 8.5°C of Pune. While the IT hub town Pune registered the 1st single digit minimum temperature of this season, Nasik had earlier plunged to 7.3°C on 10thJan.
Month of December, however remained mild for the duo. More often than not, both the cities have precedence of dipping down to 4-6°C during January, albeit with some exceptions. In the meantime, base station of Delhi recorded low of 6.2°C and airport observatory Palam measured 7.4°C today.
Entire north India is experiencing biting cold in the wake of active western disturbances. Icy northerly winds have penetrated deep south, up to Madhya Maharashtra, moving past plains of chilly South Rajasthan. Cold wave conditions over parts of Rajasthan have been advected further south to reach lee side of Western Ghats.
These conditions are likely to linger on for the next 3-4 days. Appearance of an anticyclone over parts of Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh will snap the cold flow from 28-29 Jan onward. However, after a short breather, the local people will have to rough it out and trudge through, possibly with another wave of cold sting in the 1st week of February.
