Cyclone Phethai to bring moderate to heavy rains over Tamil Nadu

During the last 24 hours, isolated light rains have occurred over coastal parts of Tamil Nadu.

At present, the cyclonic storm Phethai is lying over Southwest Bay of Bengal around 490 km east -southeast of Chennai city. This system would move in northwest directions towards Andhra Pradesh coast.

In the presence of this system, the sky conditions will remain cloudy to overcast over Tamil Nadu. Moreover,moderate to strong surface wind will continue to blow over the state for next 24-36 hours. Further, coastal areas of Tamil Nadu such as Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Vellore , Ariyalur and Puducherry as well as Perambur will experience rains and thundershowers. However, interior parts of Tamil Nadu will witness mainly dry weather with isolated rains over one or two places.

Moreover, places in proximity to Chennai city would also experience moderate to heavy rains during the next 12 hours.

An improvement in prevailing weather condition is expected from December 18 onwards. Till then, the maximums would remain in the range of 25℃-27℃ over northern parts of Tamil Nadu while southern parts will experience maximums around 29℃- 32℃.

In case of minimums, the night temperatures would settle between 20℃- 22℃ over northern parts while around 21℃-24℃ over the southern parts of Tamil Nadu.
