Delhi has been observing cool mornings for the last three days. Safdarjung observatory recorded a single-digit minimum of 9°C, yet again, on the second consecutive day. This is about 4°C below the normal. The same was the case with many other locations over Delhi/NCR. The meteorological office at Lodhi Road and Narela observatory measured a minimum of 7.6°C, about 4-6°C below the average. Cool northwesterly winds added to the chill factor in the early morning hours. Nippy conditions will continue till the weekend and abate thereafter.
A western disturbance has been moving across the hilly areas of North India. Weather activity remains confined to the hills. The hilly region will observe scattered, light to moderate rain and snow over the next 2 days. The system is weak and therefore, no spillover to the plains, as such. Even, the wind pattern has not changed much and the cold winds down the slopes of the snowy mountains remain persistent. Temperatures are likely to remain below normal for another 4 days. Possibly, after clearance of the system, sometime on 08th Mar and later, the clear sky may add to the morning chill, keeping the morning cool and pleasant for an extended duration.
Scattered clouds have appeared over parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. A partly cloudy sky is the resultant of a strong westerly jet stream, blowing across this region, at the high tropospheric level. The core zone of this stream keeps shifting up and down in latitude and so are the cloud bands. Delhi/ NCR will find these clouds clearing around the afternoon hours. A fair amount of sunshine can be expected, later. Clear sky, pleasant cool winds and a lot of shine are expected till Saturday afternoon. A sheet of clouds may descend, once again, right till the start of the next week, dimming the sunshine. Restricting the escape of radiation, the morning temperatures may also enter into double digits. Maximum temperature will also have a tendency to move closer to the normal of 27-28°C.
