Flooding rains likely in Madhya Pradesh for another 24 hours

The month of July gave heavy to very heavy rains over the state of Madhya Pradesh leading to floods in many districts. However, since last week of July, rains had reduced significantly, and almost dry weather conditions continued over most parts of Madhya Pradesh particularly West Madhya Pradesh saw a prolonged dry spell.

On and off rains continued over East Madhya Pradesh. In fact, the last 24 hours saw some moderate to heavy showers over the state of Madhya Pradesh. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Sheopur recorded a whopping 55 mm of rains, Satna 38 mm, Damoh 31 mm, Rewa 24 mm, Datia 24 mm, Khajuraho 23 mm, and Nowgong 16 mm.

Now, the well marked low pressure area which was over Northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is lying over Interior parts of Odisha. This weather system will move in a west northwest direction and may once again weaken into a well marked low and will be stationed over Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Therefore, we expect heavy to very heavy rains to continue over many parts of Madhya Pradesh for another 24 hours. These heavy rains may once again bring back flood fear over the state. However, the situation will not be a prolonged affair.

After 24 hours, the system will weaken and move further west leading to decrease in rains. Therefore, by August 10, rains will once again witness a significant dip over the state.
