Fresh western disturbance to bring rain and snow in hilly states

February 5, 2015 12:57 PM |

A fresh western disturbance will affect the western Himalayan region over the next 36 to 48 hours. The system will affect the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, followed by Uttarakhand. It is expected to bring rain and snow at many places in Jammu and Kashmir and in a few places over Himachal Pradesh.

Clouding over several parts of Jammu and Kashmir such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Kukernag and of Himachal Pradesh like Dharamsala and Shimla will be witnessed 7th February onwards. However, higher reaches in these hilly states may witness light rain on the same day.

Sunday 8th February will be the day when hilly states are expected to be bathed by rain followed by a white cover of snow. 9th onwards the rain will begin to recede as the weather system will move away from the states.

The approach of the system towards Jammu & Kashmir can already be seen as the minimums of several places in the state have shown a rise of 1-2 degrees Celsius. For instance, Banihal’s minimum temperature recorded on 4th Feb had been -2.8°C which has risen to 0.9°C and minimum temperature in Kukernag has been recorded at -2.1°C today from yesterday’s -3.3°C.

According to Skymet, after experiencing good weather tomorrow, resident of hilly states are likely to brace the cold weather.
