Heat wave to abate Northwest Plains, courtesy dust storm and rain

Pre Monsoon in Northwest India

Northwest India has witnessed one of the longest spell of heat wave this season from June 1 to June 10. Thereafter (June 11 onward), temperatures started to decrease due to a short spell of easterlies and revival of pre-Monsoon activities began.

In the past 24 hours as well, isolated thundery activity with dust storm has been witnessed in parts of East Rajasthan like Sikar, Jaipur, Ajmer, and Chittorgarh. Heat wave conditions have abated most parts of Northwest India.

However, isolated pockets of Rajasthan are still witnessing heat wave conditions. According to experts heat wave will gradually abate entire Northwest India as pre-Monsoon activities once again revive from June 15. The reason for these intermittent rains and thundershowers will be the successive yet feeble Western Disturbances which might induce a Cyclonic Circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab and Haryana.

Moreover, humid strong winds in the region are pulling moisture from the Arabian Sea, while a trough is extending from Central Pakistan up to East India across Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The combined effect of these weather systems would be responsible for rain in the region. Hence, dust storm along with rain and thundershowers will be a sight in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and NCR area and Rajasthan. The weather activity in terms of rain will be light and patchy in nature. However, one or two intense spells for a short duration due to the convective clouds cannot be ruled out.

The weather activity will help in bringing down the mercury and give long-awaited relief from hot weather conditions. Though the relief is not expected to be a significant one, the temperatures might subside by two to three degrees. Isolated pockets might witness high temperatures, but heat wave is largely going to be at bay. From June 15 to June 19, these activities in terms of thundershower, and dust storm would become widespread and cover entire Northwest Plains.
