Heavy Rains Likely Over Bengaluru: Wet Days Till Mid-Week Next

The capital city Bengaluru has been receiving pre-monsoon showers for the last four days in a row. The city observatory has gathered 61 mm of rainfall during this period. The total rainfall of 95.1mm has been recorded during this month. Very soon, it is likely to catch up with the monthly normal of 107.4mm. The rainy spell will continue intermittently till mid-week next, albeit with varying intensity.
Typical pre-monsoon features have appeared over the South Peninsula and Bay of Bengal. There are three cyclonic circulations over the land region. The one over Telangana and North Interior Karnataka (Check Karnataka Weather) is supported by a trough extending southward across Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka.

Another cyclonic circulation is marked over coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh, and yet another small circulation is lying over the North Tamil Nadu region.
In addition, a broad cyclonic circulation has come up over the south-central Bay of Bengal (BoB) up to mid-tropospheric levels. This will move westward, over Southwest BoB, closer to the Tamil Nadu Coast over the next two days. These multiple weather systems are interacting and supporting each other to enhance the pre-monsoon activity over the South Peninsula.
The tech city of Bengaluru is well within the active zone of these weather systems. Rain and thundershowers accompanied by lightning, strong winds, and a few spells of heavy downpour are likely for the next 4-5 days. A heavy bout of thunderstorms with nonstop intense rains is expected tonight and may extend till tomorrow morning. The rains may ease out temporarily tomorrow but only to pick up again from onwards for the subsequent 3-4 days. The heavy rains tonight may impact the road and air operations. Waterlogging of low-lying areas and inundation could be another issue.
