Light Monsoon rains to continue over Kolkata, intensity to increase soon

Kolkata weather has been playing games for quite some time now. While there are days when rainy spells continue to lash the City of Joy, there are other days when the city remains dry with warm weather conditions taking over.

However, since the arrival of Monsoon, light rainfall activity has been taking place over the City of Joy. Southwest Monsoon made an onset over Kolkata on July 12, the very same day when Monsoon marked its arrival over the cities of Mumbai as well as Hyderabad.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am, the Dum Dum Airport observatory witnessed moderate showers with 9 mm of rain being recorded. However, no rainfall was witnessed over the Alipore observatory.

At present, a trough is running from the cyclonic circulation over Northeast India up to North Konkan and oa across another cyclonic circulation over the East Coast. This trough has been running in proximity of Kolkata which is why the city has been receiving light to moderate rains.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet, these rains are likely to continue over Kolkata. The good news is that the intensity of these rains is expected to witness an increase by June 19 and 20. During that time, Kolkata may witness some good spells of Monsoon rains.
