Light Monsoon rains to continue over Kolkata

Monsoon 2017 has been giving good rains over Kolkata since the time of its arrival over the city of joy. While there have been breaks in between, Kolkata has managed to witness a few spells of rain in between after all. In fact, very heavy rains to the tune of 94 mm were also witnessed in the City of Joy on June 19.

Thereafter, on June 23 as well, Kolkata had recorded good rainfall activity with the city recording a whopping 49 mm of rain. All in all, it can be deduced that rains in Kolkata have been a constant and residents have been able to get the taste of Monsoon.

The last 24 hours were also not different and Kolkata did receive a few spells of rain. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Alipore observatory in Kolkata witnessed a good 12 mm of rain. Not only this, light rains of 2 mm were also witnessed at the Dum Dum Airport.

These weather conditions are attributed to the low-pressure area which is over Jharkhand and adjoining Odisha region. Also, moisture incursion has increased over the region due to which rains have witnessed an increase.

As per weathermen at Skymet, light to moderate Monsoon rains are likely to continue over Kolkata for at least the next 24 to 48 hours. Due to these rains, temperatures will also remain on the lower side giving relief from humid weather.
