Northeast India has finally got respite from inclement weather conditions after witnessing heavy to very heavy Monsoon rains during the first half of June. Though, this relief will be only for a brief period.
There has been reduction in intensity of rain during the last 48 hours and according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, we expect further decline in next two to three days. However, scattered light to moderate rain will continue over isolated places.
As per Skymet, the reason behind the decline in the downpour is the presence of a low pressure area in west-central Bay of Bengal, with all moisture and winds converging around it.
As a result, wind pattern over the region has changed from southerlies to southeasterlies cutting down the moisture content.

The system will be moving westwards and within two to three days the impact of the system will be negligible. Thereafter, moist southerly winds will once again start blowing over the region. And with this, rain activity will once again pick up over the region both in terms of intensity and spread.
Northeastern states have been receiving good showers ever since the Southwest Monsoon has made onset over the region on June 5. Besides Western Ghats, Northeast region remains the rainiest pocket. Particularly Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya record very heavy rainfall during this period.
