Delhi Weather: Sharp Drop In Mercury- Dry Weather Continue
Passage of a western disturbance has dipped the temperature significantly over the northern plains. Following rainfall in the plains and snow in the mountains, the chilly winds blowing down the slopes of the mountains have plunged the night temperatures substantially. Plains of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan have registered the lowest temperatures of this season so far. However, the mercury is yet to drop to single digits at any of these places, but it is likely during this week itself.
Base station Safdarjung recorded a low of 12.7°C this morning, the lowest so far, marking a drop of about 6°C since yesterday. A further drop is expected over the next 3–4 days. This happens to be the first under-15°C temperature of this season for the national capital. Courtesy of the drop in mercury, there was a distinct flavor of winter chill in the air this morning. This will pick up further, and the mercury could just stop short of single digits around the weekend.
Delhi has a track record of slipping to single-digit minimum temperatures in November. The lowest temperature for this month usually gets recorded at the fag end of the month. Since November 2010, the lowest temperature of 6.3°C was recorded on 23rd Nov 2020.

There is no active weather system likely over the mountains. The plains will remain under the cold sweep of chilly winds. Delhi is expected to observe a long dry weather spell. The preparatory phase of the typical dry winter chill will continue beyond the middle of November.
