Night temperatures in Delhi to drop from next week

December 18, 2013 3:14 PM |

Christmas eve is going to be cold in Delhi as minimum temperatures are likely to fall significantly by then. According to our weather models, the Western Disturbance which is expected from 22nd of December over the Western Himalayan region would have passed after giving snow and rain in Jammu and Kashmir.

Isolated rain could also be expected in the northwest plains during the stay of the Western Disturbance. The precipitation and melting of snow could pull minimums down to below zero degrees in the hills, while in the plains it could drop to 5 degrees.

Night temperatures in Delhi and North India are near normal as of now and would continue to remain so for the next two days. Under the influence of the Western Disturbance a rise in the night temperature is expected in North India by the weekend. The weather system would bring clouds and stop the northerly winds, to increase temperatures during the period.

Meanwhile, Lucknow and Kanpur in the plains have been among the coldest cities in North India in the last two days. Lucknow recorded a minimum of 5.2 degrees on Wednesday morning which is the second lowest only to Chandigarh that recorded a minim of 5 degrees. Earlier on Tuesday, Kanpur was the coldest in the plains with mercury falling to 4.6 degrees. It recorded 6 degrees as minimum on Wednesday.
