Paradip, Puri, Cuttack and other parts of Odisha to receive good rains

Odisha rains

Continuous rains have been occurring over most parts of Odisha from quite a long time now. Most of the coastal and northern parts of the state had witnessed good rains almost the entire month. Seldom were the days when the districts of Odisha have not seen any traces of rains.

Despite these continuous showers, Odisha as a whole as on July 10 is rain deficient by 8%. The reason for this rain deficiency is that some of the interior and southern districts adjoining Chhattisgarh have not witnessed many rains. Though in the last 24 hours, most of the coastal stations of the state including a few interior regions have witnessed very good rains. Extremely heavy spells to the tune of 95 mm were recorded in Paradip.

The other districts that witnessed good rains in the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday include Sambalpur 35 mm, Balasore 30 mm, Chandbali 23 mm, and Sundergarh recorded 10 mm of spells.

The reason for these spells as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to a trough which is extending from Punjab to Bay of Bengal across Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. As the northern districts of Odisha lie in the vicinity of this trough, moderate spells with isolated hefty rains occurred over the state.

However, Skymet further reiterates that moderate showers with a few heavy spells are expected to continue over North Coastal Odisha for the next 2-3 days. The interior regions of the state can also anticipate scattered rain.

However, as a strong cyclonic circulation or a low-pressure area is expected to develop over Madhya Pradesh. This weather system will move towards Gujarat and thus, moisture concentration will be around that weather system.

On account of this, the rain intensity is expected to decrease by July 15 all across the eastern parts of the country including Odisha. But the weather will not go completely dry and on and off rains will continue. Thereafter another good spell is expected to commence on July 18.
