Pleasant weather to usher Navratri festival in Gujarat

garba in GujaratThe nine -day-long Navratri festival has commenced with great fervour and gaiety in India's western state of Gujarat. During this period, people across the state welcome Goddess Durga and her nine forms to their homes.

The word Navratri, is derived from the ancient Sanskrit word 'nine nights' and culminates on the tenth day, known as Dussehra, which marks the victory of good over evil. Scores of devotees fast, pray and dance to please the goddess that is marked with dhol, garba and dandiya.

Dressed in vibrant costumes, women and men in large groups perform the folk dance of garba. The grand celebrations start in the evening and go on till late in night.

Weather during Navratri

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, pleasant weather conditions are expected to prevail over the state during the festivities. Days will be sunny and dry but evenings and nights will be pleasing.

This season does not face any threat from rains unlike 2013 where Garba grounds were flooded.

During this period, day temperatures are expected to settle between mid-30s to higher 30s. Night temperatures will remain comfortable around mid-20s. As per Skymet, people can experience a flavour of chill during late night and early morning hours.
