Rain and thundershowers in Kerala, Karnataka

April 23, 2015 2:22 PM |

keralaCool pre-monsoon showers have brought down the mercury across Kerala and Karnataka and for next 24 - 48 hours, they are likely to do the same in other parts of Peninsular India. Widespread light rain and thundershowers are expected to lash parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalseema.

Bringing relief from the scorching summer heat, light rain was witnessed in parts of Kerala in last 24 hours. In Kerala, Kannur received 2.3 mm of rain in last 24 hours and Alappuzha 0.8 mm of rain. In Karnataka, Belgaum received 2. 6 mm, Chitradurga 7 mm and Mangalore 7.4 mm of rain.

Heavy pre-monsoon rain in last few days had flooded most parts of Kerala, leading to traffic snarls and uprooting trees. Though rain has subsided in Kerala now, it is going to last for another 24 -48 hours.

The trough of low pressure that is extending from Karnataka to South Peninsula is expected to shift eastwards and give rain in coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh, covering Rayalseema and few parts of Tamil Nadu.

Rain brings down temperature

The day and night pre-monsoon showers have brought the maximum temperatures down that had peaked during March.

The day temperatures are below normal by 1-2°C that are likely to increase gradually after 48 hours. The temperatures will crawl back to normal.
