Rains to continue over Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Kochi, Coimbatore, Coonoor

Good rains all set to lash Kerala

Updated on April 2, 2018: As reiterated by Skymet Weather, good rains were observed over the state of Kerala while some areas of Tamil Nadu also recorded light rainfall activity.

These rainfall activities had occurred due to the presence of a trough in proximity of the region along with a cyclonic circulation over Comorin region.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Kozhikode recorded 19 mm of rains, Karipur 11 mm, Punalur 0.8 mm, Alappuzha 0.6 mm.

Along with this, traces of rains were also seen over Udhagamandalam, Coimbatore, Coonoor, and Kochi. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the state of Kerala will witness light to moderate rains for another 24 hours while the state of Tamil Nadu may see isolated rains.

Published on April 1, 2018: The states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala witness good rainfall activity during the Pre-Monsoon season. These rains occur due to the trough which extends across the interior Peninsular India region along with presence of a cyclonic circulation, if at all one happens to form around these states.

The last 24 hours were also not very different for the states as rainfall activity of light intensity did lash these states. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Paramathy recorded 23 mm of rains, Coimbatore 0.3 mm, Vellore 0.2 mm, Karipur 0.1 mm, and Udhagamandalam 0.1 mm. Traces of rains were also seen over Kochi and adjoining areas of Kerala.

These rainfall activities have been attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is over Comorin and its adjoining areas. Along with this, a trough is extending from this system across Kerala and Tamil Nadu which has further added to the rains.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue over the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. These showers will occur mostly during the late afternoon hours, which is a Pre Monsoon characteristic.

Cities of Coonoor, Udhagamandalam, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Malappuram, Palghat, Kannur, Kasargod, Kochi, Kozhikode are expected to witness some rainfall activity during the next 24 to 48 hours.
