Rains remain confined to Northeast and Peninsular IndiaFor the past few days, there has been a significant decline in the rainfall activity over Chennai and its adjoining areas. Dry weather conditions have been observed over plains of North India and Central India as well.

Widespread rain and snow was recorded over the hills of North India on December 10, and 11 due to a Western Disturbance. However, as the system has moved away, dry weather conditions have taken over in the region during the last 24 hours.

Northeast India, on the other hand, has been receiving light rainfall for the past two days due to a persistent cyclonic circulation. During the past 24 hours, Pasighat recorded 9 mm of rain, Pet Jorhat 6 mm, Tezpur 4 mm, and Dibrugarh 1 mm.

Moderate rainfall has been observed in many areas of Kerala. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Kottayam received a good 33 mm of rainfall, Pattambi 29.8 mm, Kunnamkulam 13.8 mm. Thiruvananthapuram Airport 59.6 mm, and Alappuzha 12 mm. Some areas in Tamil Nadu also received light rain. For instance, Coimbatore recorded 1.6 mm rain, Kodaikanal 8 mm, Madurai 0.7 mm, and Kanyakumari 9 mm.

Some areas of Chhattisgarh and Odisha including Raipur and Bhubaneshwar recorded very light rain. During the next 24 hours, a few parts of South Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Telangana may receive isolated light rain.

Kerala and Tamil Nadu will continue to receive scattered light rain at a few places. Rainfall activity in Northeast India is also likely to continue for another 24 hours.
