Rains to increase in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, thunderstorm also expected

March 5, 2020 3:56 PM |

South India rains

Kerala and interior Tamil Nadu have been experiencing a few good spells of rain and thundershowers for the past 24 hours.

Kochi in Kerala observed 8.6 mm of rain, while Thiruvananthapuram witnessed 7.9 mm of rain. Similarly, Ramagundam in Telangana observed 1.4 mm of rainfall along with thunderstorm activities. Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu experienced an intense spell of rain.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the trough that was extending from the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra up to the Comorin area across Telangana.

Now, another trough is extending from East Uttar Pradesh or Bihar up to interior Tamil Nadu across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and South Interior Karnataka.

In the wake of the above-mentioned weather systems, we expect rain and thundershowers to increase in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours. While scattered rain is possible in Kerala at the same time.

These on and off showers are expected to continue until March 7. Thereafter, as the weather system i.e trough will start fading away, it will lead to clear and dry weather conditions in the entire South Peninsula.

We do not expect any significant rainfall activity in Coastal and North interior Karnataka throughout this episode. But, one or two intense thundery activities cannot be ruled out in Andhra Pradesh and interior Tamil Nadu.
