May 11, 2015 2:56 PM |

Rain in KeralaAs the pre-Monsoon activity once again gains momentum over southern peninsula, several parts of South India witnessed fairly widespread rain on Sunday with intensity varying from light to moderate.

A cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka and adjoining Tamil Nadu combined with wind discontinuity from East Madhya Pradesh to South Tamil Nadu across Vidarbha and Telangana is giving rain over the region.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, both the systems will continue to give light to moderate rain over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Interior Karnataka and parts of south coastal Andhra Pradesh.

As per Skymet, the entire peninsula is expected to receive rain and thundershowers for at least four to five days, which will lead to comfortable weather conditions in the region.

The cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka and adjoining Tamil Nadu will gradually move northwards along the east coast. As a result, the intensity of rain will increase over coastal Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, west coast will also witness increase in rainfall activity on account of wind discontinuity covering entire west coast including Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra. In wake of the weather activity, maximum temperatures will settle below normal across Tamil Nadu and Interior Karnataka.

Gradually, the temperatures over coastal Andhra Pradesh will also come down by few notches as rainfall activity in the region will become more intense and widespread after two to three days.

Let us have a look at the rainfall figures across southern parts of India in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday.
