Southwest Monsoon covers entire Andhra PradeshSouthwest Monsoon has finally covered entire Andhra Pradesh today. In fact, Monsoon has also covered Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and some parts of Vidarbha and Jharkhand. Now, conditions are favourable for the further advancement of Monsoon over other parts as well.

During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains have been witnessed over coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh. For instance, during the past 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Machilipatnam recorded 47.3 mm of rain, Vijayawada 44 mm, Kakinada 5.7 mm, Kurnool 5.9 mm, and Ongole 2 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently over Odisha and adjoining Bay of Bengal. The system has moved inland and is likely to affect interior parts of the state as well. These rains are expected to continue over the region today as well.

After 24 hours, rain intensity will decrease over coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh but Rayalaseema will continue to receive light to moderate rain at many places. The possibility of heavy spells over the region also cannot be ruled out.

So far, Coastal Andhra Pradesh has recorded 37 percent surplus rains, and Rayalaseema has observed 27 percent of excess rains. These rains will further improve the overall rainfall figures.
