Weather forecast for the week in India from 19th January to 25th January

cold wave It is going to be a week filled with weather for North India, especially the hills as rain and snow is expected in the region in a couple of days. Some parts of Central and East India will also observe the trickle down affected of the system. South India will remain the least weather sensitive region this week.

Here’s a look at the weather for the week across the country:

Weather in North India

A western Disturbance is currently approaching Jammu and Kashmir and is expected to give rain and snow in the higher reaches of the state on Tuesday. By Wednesday, the lower reaches such as Srinagar is also expected to observe some rain and snow. This will be the first spell of snow for Srinagar this season – a highly unusual occurrence.

By Wednesday, the weather system will start affecting other parts of the region as well. Widespread rain and snow is expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from mid-week onwards. Most of the popular hill stations like Shimla, Manali and Kullu will observe snowfall, which is expected to last for at least a couple of days.

The system is likely to have a bearing on the weather in the plains of North India too. During the period from January 21 to January 22, we can expect some rain in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The minimums in the region will rise after observing rain, while the maximums will drop, creating cold day conditions.

Weather in East and Northeast India

The weather in the region is largely going to remain clear, except that East India can observe some clouding in view of the weather system in North India. However, the clouding will help the cold wave conditions in East India to abate as minimum temperatures, which have been settling way below normal will rise, making the cold nights a little comfortable. Fog will however, continue to create problem for the people of Northeast India. East India will witness a marginal improvement in fog conditions.

Weather in Central India

Central India will observe some weather activity from Thursday onwards due to the weather system in Jammu and Kashmir. Some parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra could experience rain. A cyclonic circulation in Gujarat is likely to act in tandem with the Western Disturbance to bring about this weather in the region. Gujarat could also witness some rain during this period.

Weather in South India

South India is expected to maintain a normal temperature profile this week. West coast is likely to be warmer than the east coast, a usual phenomenon. The maximum temperature in west coast is likely to settle in the mid-30s, while the east coast will see the maximums hover around 30 degrees Celsius. Around the weekend, we can expect some rain in Kerala and Coastal Tamil Nadu.
