Wintry weather returns to North India, sky remains obscuredAfter a long time, wintry weather has finally made that much-awaited appearance over the plains of North India. Both maximums and minimums have registered a drop.

Some areas in North India have also witnessed cold day conditions for the first time during this season. Most parts of Punjab, and Haryana are now reeling under cold day conditions. Cold day conditions are observed when the day temperature falls below 16 degrees.

The temperatures in these areas have dropped well below the above mentioned range. Cold day conditions remained absent from Delhi-NCR with the day temperature recorded at 19 degree Celsius.

Usually, the presence and passage of Western Disturbance result in a variety of weather conditions over entire North India, especially the North Indian plains. While the arrival of the system causes clouding over the plains, the wake of the same results in cold wave conditions, or cold day conditions over the region.

After the passage of the current Western Disturbance, sky obscured conditions have been observed right from Jammu across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This is the first time during this season when such conditions have been witnessed.

Sky obscured conditions occur when horizontal visibility is seen unlike fog. Also, the state of the sky cannot be ascertained correctly when such conditions occur. When the sky remains obscured, vertical extent of the sky is not known.

Usually, during the sky remaining obscured, the day temperatures get arrested and register a marginal to a significant drop. When an obscured sky cover is seen, many areas in the region observe cold day conditions. These conditions remain the same until some sunshine is seen.
