The slow moving storm continues to lash Florida with flooding rains. On Tuesday, Florida witnessed more than 1 foot of rainfall. About 8 inches of showers have been witnessed over Cross City in Florida in a span of 24 hours, from Monday morning. On the other hand, Hatchbend, a few miles northeast of Cross City, received about 12 inches of rain from Saturday to Monday.
By the second half of the week, the weather system will increase the risk of heavy showers and flooding westward, along the central Gulf of Mexico coast.
Since the last weekend, the weather system has unleashed about a foot of rainfall over parts of Florida. The system will continue to gather tropical moisture through the coming weekend.
About 3 to 6 inches of rainfall could be possible from Florida Panhandle to southeastern Louisiana. Few places could witness more than 8 inches of rainfall as well. Caution should be taken by people residing in low-lying areas, along small streams and bayous. Incessant rains will continue right from Tallahassee in Florida and Mobile in Alabama, to Biloxi in Mississippi, and New Orleans.
Though New Orleans can tackle heavy rains with the help of an extensive pumping system, other towns and cities along the central Gulf coast will have to bear the brunt of heavy showers.
The structure of the prevailing storm is very different from a tropical system. However, it will bring the same effect, in terms of rainfall and strong winds, as a slow-moving tropical depression or tropical storm along the Gulf coast.
