Northwest Ontario on Winter storm watch

Most of the northwest Ontario may witness the first blast of winter this weekend with possibility of a large portion of winter storm making way towards the region on Friday.

As per the Environment Canada, snow measuring from 20 to 40 centimeters can make its appearance throughout Friday. The regions that are most likely to be influenced by snow storms include areas stretching from Ignace in the west to Greenstone in the east. Moreover, as per the experts, the large storm is heading north towards the United States.

The Meteorological Department further claims that after 10:30 am on Friday (local timing) weather is expected to b be the worst especially during afternoon and evening. The west of Thunder Bay will be the worst hit region that is expected to receive highest amount of snowfall.

In addition to this, northerly wind gusts along with blowing snow is also predicted on Friday. The weather condition is becoming active as per the weatherman and will definitely have an impact as it had been a quiet fall so far.

Freezing rain and slippery conditions are also foreseen over other communities like Schreiber, Marathon, Manitouwadge and Hornepayne. As per the weather office, snow is expected to begin in areas west of Lake Superior on early Friday morning affecting the areas near lake later in the afternoon.

It is also advisable to the motorists to be specially cautioned against the snow and rain which can arouse low visibility thus leading to difficulty in driving and traveling.

Along with rain-snow-ice mix and the strong winds, lightning strikes could also be a possibility. Although even after the storm passes through the northwest, some snow on the ground will remain due to temperatures dropping below seasonal values.
