Cyclone hits Bangladesh coast

Several places over Bangladesh have been witnessing heavy to very heavy rains. Likewise, the southern districts of the country have been observing three digits of rain. So much so that, Hatia recorded rainfall to the tune of 119 mm in the last 24 hours.

Within the span of 24 hours from 8:30 on Saturday, Sylhet 110 mm, Comilla 99 mm, Tangail 97 mm, Sitakundu 82 mm, Mymensingh 79 mm, Chandpur 53 mm, Dhaka 50 mm, Rajshahi 10 mm, Cos x Bazar 8 mm, Patuakhali 5.3 mm and Khulna 3 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a low-pressure area which is seen over northeast parts of Bangladesh and adjoining regions. Further, this weather system is likely to move east-northeastwards and then, is expected to weaken gradually.

Due to the effect of this system, light rains are possible at isolated places over Bangladesh during the next 24 hours. In addition, partly cloudy to cloudy sky is likely to prevail over the entire country during the similar time frame.

After 24 hours, the intensity of these rains will further reduce significantly and thereafter, dry weather is expected to take over the entire country. During this period, the sky conditions will remain partly cloudy.

Further, day temperatures are expected to rise significantly while night temperatures will observe a marginal drop by 3-4 notches.
