Heavy Mumbai rain brings city to standstill; Relief after 24 hours

Heavy rains began over Mumbai from the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, rains have become very heavy in the past two days. In fact, three digit rains have also been recorded.

During the past 24 hours, Colaba recorded extremely heavy rain of 152 mm and Santacruz witnessed 88 mm of rain. Heavy Monsoon showers have been lashing the city of Mumbai today as well. So much so that in a mere span of three 3 hours Dadar recorded 115 mm of rain, Mahalaxmi 105 mm and Santacruz 86 mm of rain.

These hefty showers have created chaos around the city as most places such as Dadar circle, Hind Mata, Gandhi market have been waterlogged. Heavy traffic jams have been troubling Mumbaikars since morning.

The local trains have been delayed. The Mumbai Nagpur Duronto express near Asangaon also got derallied due to landslides which occurred due to hefty rains.

It is anticipated that these heavy Monsoon showers will continue for the next 24 hours and thereafter the intensity is likely to reduce bringing in some relief from the ongoing rainfall activities. However, moderate spells of rains will continue even after that.
