Cyclone Nada to give rain in Chennai, TN, may weaken in 12 hours

December 1, 2016 1:50 PM |

Cyclone Nada is still churning in the southwest Bay of Bengal but has moved further closer to the Tamil Nadu coast. Weather models are indicating that the system is likely to cross the Indian coast, south of Puducherry close to Cuddalore between later night of Thursday and early hours of Friday. However, we expect system to weaken into a deep depression by then due to increase in vertical wind sharear and closer proximity to land.

Nada will continue to give moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers over Chennai and rest of the coastal Tamil Nadu such as Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Puducherry, Pamban, Karaikal throughout the day. Few places may also record very heavy showers during this time period as well.

Squally winds with the speed of 50-60 kmph gusting up to 70 kmph will be blowing over the coastal areas. Locals and fishermen are advised to stay away from the beach side.

Meanwhile, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala could also witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers on Thursday.
