Monsoon Forecast for Aug 1, 2018: Heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh to continue

The axis of monsoon trough continues to pass through Ferozepur, Ambala, Bareilly, center of low pressure area, Patna, Dumka, Burdwan, Kolkata and towards East central Bay of Bengal.

During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over west and central parts of Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and parts of North Odisha.

Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions occurred over Sikkim, parts of West Bengal, East Bihar, parts of Himachal Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh.

Major rainfall contribution came from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh that recorded 186 mm of rain, followed by Balasore 120 mm, Purulia 113 mm and Bahraich 100 mm.

As on July 30, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 6%. Division-wise, Central and South India are rainfall surplus by 6% and 2%. Meanwhile, Northwest and East & Northeast India are rain deficient by 1% and 28%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, vigorous Monsoon conditions are expected over southern and central parts of Uttar Pradesh with moderate to heavy rains. The flood situation over Uttar Pradesh will continue to remain grim.

Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions will prevail over remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and northeastern states where light to moderate rains are expected.

Normal Monsoon rains are likely over rest of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, North Chhattisgarh and Kerala.
