Chennai, Vellore, Pondicherry to witness good rains

Rain in Chennai

The state of Tamil Nadu has been receiving light to moderate with isolated heavy rains since the beginning of August. Barring one or two days, otherwise, the weather of most parts of the state particularly Chennai has remained rainy. In the last 24 hours also, light rains occurred in a few districts of Tamil Nadu that includes the capital city as well. Though the intensity of rainfall has reduced immensely, it is expected that rains will pick up the pace in the coming days.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Chennai recorded 2 mm of light rainfall, Nagapattinam and Pamban 0.5 mm, Pondicherry 0.2 mm and Kodaikanal 0.3 mm of rain.

As per Skymet Weather, a trough is extending from north-west Bay of Bengal towards the south of Andhra Pradesh coast at the sea level. Thus, in the next 24 hours, light rain is likely to occur in many parts of the northern districts of Tamil Nadu such as Vellore, Pondicherry, Tirrupattur, and Dharmapuri are expected to witness light rain in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The state capital Chennai which has received light to moderate spell and is also likely to witness rain for the next 24 to 48 hours.

Despite these rains, as on August 4, Tamil Nadu and Chennai both are rain deficit by 2% and 12% respectively. Temperatures that were in upper 30's have already dropped by 3 to 4 degrees due to these rains. However, the humidity will keep on bothering the residents of Chennai.
