Cold day conditions to abate in UP, Bihar

January 14, 2014 6:18 PM |

East India witnessed one of the coldest day of the season with Lucknow recording 13.3°C as the maximum temperature on Monday. Clouds and foggy conditions kept the sun away from the region thus bringing the maximums down by 6 to 8°C in Agra, Kanpur, Bareilly, Gorakhpur and Allahabad. Patna, Bhagalpur, Forbesganj and Gaya in Bihar also observed below normal day temperatures.

The region had witnessed rain with all of the above places experiencing good rain once in a while last week. The moisture levels are high and slow winds coupled with single digit minimum temperatures are keeping the conditions favourable for the intensification of fog in the coming few days.

Fog could be dense during early morning hours and visibility could reduce to nil in Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi and Patna in the region. Rail, road and air traffic would continue to be affected due to such conditions.

However, fog will disappear as the day progress due to increase in wind speeds and facilitate surface heating. So day temperatures will rise marginally to bring relief from cold day conditions in the state during the next two days. Clouds associated with the present Western Disturbance in the Western Himalayan region will reach to drop the day temperatures again.
