December to bring rainy days for Chennai

November 28, 2016 12:10 PM |

December to bring rainy days for ChennaiChennai rains have remained far and few for quite some time now. So much so that dry weather has taken over and the weather conditions have been disappointing Chennaites for long now. The city has only received a mere 57.9 mm of rainfall as compared to a whopping 407.4 mm of rain.

In fact, the city has been witnessing the worst November in terms of Monsoon rains in the last three years. However, it looks like the month of December is only expected to bring good news for the residents of Chennai.

A cyclonic circulation is currently in southeast Bay of Bengal. In fact, this weather system is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area during the next 24 to 48 hours. The weather system also has the potential of intensifying into a depression if conditions remain favourable until then.

The capital city of Tamil Nadu is expected to begin to receive rains from the night of November 30. The rainfall intensity is expected to increase around December 1. Thus, Chennai is likely to receive light to moderate showers on December 1 and 2. The possibility of a few heavy spells cannot be ruled out.

Thereafter, rainfall intensity is expected to reduce. However, on and off rains will continue. Also, the formation of another weather system is likely right after the first one which will continue the rainy spell over the city.

Last year, during the same time, torrential Chennai rains had wreaked havoc over the city. However, this year, rains are not going to be as intense.
