Delhi and its surrounded cities have been witnessing hot and sultry weather conditions for the past few days and it seems there is no relief expected for the next few hours. The national capital has not observed any rains since June 16 when the city had recorded 6 mm of rain.
During the entire month of June, Delhi had experienced on and off dust storms and thundershowers accompanied by strong winds. Light rains were seen in few pockets. Delhi has witnessed subdued rainfall for the month of June as compared to its average monthly rainfall of 82.2 mm. Till date, the city has recorded 7.3 mm of showers only.
During the last week, the national capital has also seen a whopping rise in temperature. The mercury seems to be settling between 39°C and 41°C mark. The reason for this hot and sultry weather condition in Delhi can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and adjacent Haryana, which persists over the lower level. Another cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha is moving towards northwest.
Moist and warm easterlies and south easterlies are also prevailing over Madhya Pradesh. As the trough line lies far off, cool air is not able to reach the Delhi region which is why residents in Delhi are experiencing humid weather conditions. Normally, patchy thunderstorms and dust storms occur during this type of weather conditions. However, nothing such is being witnessed now. Moreover, due to the light humid easterlies the feel like weather is almost 40°C to 44°C during afternoon hours making the afternoons more sultry.
However, as per Skymet Weather, the condition will improve from June 20 and Delhi and adjoining areas are likely to get relief from this type of humid weather condition. The city and its adjoining parts will witness a marginal drop in mercury leading to pleasant weather conditions. Light to moderate rain and dust storm at a few places is likely over Delhi/NCR with strong average winds of 40 kmph gusting at 60 kmph during the next 2 to 3 hours.
