Fresh weather system to increase rain over Tamil Nadu

December 22, 2015 1:50 PM |

Rain in TNTamil Nadu is expected to witness an increase in rain activity once again in span of next 24 to 48 hours, particularly over southern districts.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a fresh cyclonic circulation is seen brewing over Sri Lanka and adjoining South Tamil Nadu coast that will intensify the intensity of rain over the region.

The state has been witnessing subdued rain activity during the last few days in the absence of any weather system. However, South Tamil Nadu recorded on and off scattered light rain.

As per Skymet, an increase in intensity of rain will be only marginal over places such as Karaikal, Pamban and Palayamkottai. Rains will be light and patchy in nature.

Rains will again take a back seat after next 48 hours and state will witness mainly dry weather conditions. But, this will be a short break as rains will return to state once again on December 26 night and continue till December 28.

Another fresh weather system is likely to affect the weather over the state that would give some good showers over South Tamil Nadu during this period.

Even though cumulative rain in Tamil Nadu has been in excess during the Northeast Monsoon season so far, last two weeks of December remained rain deficient.

During the week between December 10 and December 16, Tamil Nadu recorded 14.1 mm of rain against the weekly average of 20.7 mm, leading to a deficiency in weekly rainfall by 32%.

From October 1 till December 16, the state has recorded 660.1 mm of rain against the normal rains of 413.6 mm. With this, state has witnessed 60% of excess rains so far.
