September has certainly started on a good not for South Peninsular, with Monsoon picking up the pace. Good showers have been going on over most of the states including their capital cities. Rains of varying intensity have been pounding these regions for the last few days.

The past 24 hours were also of not much difference as many parts of Kerala and Karnataka have witnessed Monsoon rain and thundershowers activities. In spite of these enduring rains, Kerala is still rain deficit by 20 percent and Karnataka by 16 percent.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Kottayam recorded a good 27 mm of rains, followed by Hassan 27 mm, Chitradurga 25 mm, Agumbe 12 mm, Vijayapura 11 mm, Bengaluru 7 mm, Kochi 7 mm, Alappuzha 2 mm and Mangaluru a mere 1 mm of rains.

These rains can be attributed to a north-south trough, which is extending from Interior Odisha to South Tamil Nadu across Telangana and Rayalaseema. In addition to this, a cyclonic circulation is marked over south-central Arabian Sea off Karnataka Coast.

Thus, with the combined effect of these weather features, weathermen at Skymet Weather predict most parts of Kerala to continue enduring light to moderate intensity showers for another 2 to 3 days. Similar is the case with Karnataka, wherein good showers will be occurring in most parts including the garden city of Bengaluru.

The weather will continue to remain pleasant in both the states, Kerala as well as Karnataka. Temperatures will stay near the normal levels resulting in cool mornings and nights with comfortable afternoons.
