In our land of diversities, people living in different parts of the country celebrate Christmas differently. With a western touch and a desi twist, Christmas in India has adopted a flavour of its own. In this article, Skymet brings the weather forecast of major cities in India while they celebrate Christmas with high spirits.
Delhi
Delhi bids farewell to the gone by year with a lot of style and panache. Dilli ki Sardi adds to the joy of Christmas. The city is at its best with every mall, market and even small shops gorgeously decked up with streamers and Christmas trees.
Delhiites will wake up to a cold foggy morning with minimum around 7°C. Maximum will settle near 17°C but cold day conditions will not do much to keep away Dilliwalas from merry-making. Hi-end restaurants, serving hot mulled wine with roasted duck, will be jam packed. Be it Hauz Khas, Khan Market, Connaught Place or Saket, every party destination will host theme parties keeping Santa in mind!
Cold day conditions will prevail in entire northern plains with maximums in Amritsar, Ambala, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Patiala in the range of 11°C to 15°C. Morning will be cold with minimums between 3°C and 5°C.
Mumbai
Mumbai keeps up with the festive spirit with a little bang as we expect good sunshine during Christmas. The financial capital of India is also one of the biggest party hubs of the country.
Mumbai has a good Catholic population who celebrate Christmas in the traditional way by hosting midnight masses, visiting various popular churches and giving much pertinence to Christmas carols.
A pleasant day with maximum around 32°C will be followed by a cool night as minimum will drop to 15°C. The other major city of Maharashtra, Nagpur will witness slight haze in the morning with minimum around 10°C. Day will be pleasant at 27°C.
Goa
Goa doesn’t need a reason to celebrate but the party capital of the country is definitely at its best during this time of the year. The Goans are proud of their high decibel Christmas revelry. Dancing, partying and merry-making is an inevitable part of the celebrations here.
Each and every street, house and shop is gorgeously decked up with Christmas trees, sparkling stars, tinsel, cotton flakes and streamers. Puddings and meat top the list of every sumptuous spread at house parties. On the Christmas Eve, people also commemorate the birth of Jesus by hosting midnight mass.
The beaches have already come alive with loud music as the Goans are preparing to welcome the mega-musical event Sunburn, next week. The maximum temperature in Goa will hover around 32°C, while the minimum will settle close to 21°C.
Kolkata
The mishty city Kolkata takes Jesus Christ’s message of showering relentless love and kindness to humankind very seriously. The birth anniversary of Jesus is celebrated with much joy and fervour here.
Given the colonial legacy of Kolkata, Christmas adopts a cosmopolitan dimension. Park Street is gorgeously illuminated with lights and other decorations. Pleasant weather with day temperatures in mid-twenties and minimum near 13°C will add to the festivities.
This land of festivities has a very strong inclination towards food and this proclivity gets a new meaning during festivals. Christmas is no exception and people thronging Flury’s substantiate this statement.
Bangalore
With a good percentage of students coming from various parts of the city, Bangalore is known for its multicultural ethnicity.
The city is decked up with a festive look and celebrates Christmas with a boisterous spirit. The churches draw huge crowd to their Midnight Masses and restaurants, which offer quintessential Christmas menus, are not left far behind.
During the next couple of days, skies will be clear with a mist of haze in the morning hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures will remain around 27°C and 15°C.
