Kerala's Dry Spell Jinx Broken, More Showers Expected

August 30, 2023 2:44 PM |

The parched state of Kerala has finally received a respite from their prolonged dry spell as rains were seen over the state in the past 24 hours.

During the last 24 hours, Alappuzha recorded 77 mm, Valparai 68 mm, and Kochi 41 mm of rain, signalling a shift in weather patterns. The next few days in Kerala are to see further showers of varied intensity.

The reason for the rains is the persistence of a trough extending from South Interior Karnataka to the Comorin region. A feeble circulation is also marked off the coast.

The monsoon season has been notably lacklustre for the state, with Kerala struggling to even come close to the lower end of the deficient figures. Kerala stands as the most rain-deficient area in the nation this Monsoon rains.

These rainfall activities are not likely to significantly reduce the massive deficit that Kerala is experiencing but they will definitely arrest the deficit figures.
