Weak Nada moves away, still to give rain over South India
Nada has finally moved away from Peninsular India and is now prevailing over Lakshadweep region. Once a cyclone, Nada is now seen as a low pressure area only. It is expected to weaken further gradually.
According to the Skymet Weather, the remnants of the system will continue to give light rain and thundershowers over Kerala, Coastal and Interior Karnataka including Bangalore and Tamil Nadu including Chennai during the next 24 hours.
As the system is moving away, rains will now start reducing gradually over the region.
At present also, Chennai and nearby areas are recording rains an thundershowers. The city has recorded 30 mm of rain in In span of nine hours from 8:30 am till 5:30 pm. Further, weather conditions seem conducive for more rains over the city.
Nada now a low pressure only, rain in Chennai, TN to continue
Nada continues to lose its strength and is now seen as a low pressure area only. Moving westwards, the system is now prevailing over Kerala and adjoining areas.
According to Skymet Weather, the system will further weaken and move away towards Arabian Sea.
The system will continue to give light rains over Kerala, Coastal and Interior Karnataka and Interior Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours. Remnants of the system may also give isolated showers over Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Nada has given moderate to heavy rainfall and thundershowers over several parts of Tamil Nadu on Friday. Few places have also recorded very heavy rains.
In span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Chennai recorded 70 mm of rain, Madurai 73 mm, Vellore 50 mm, Coonoor 40 mm, and Trichy 20 mm.
Nada weakens into well-marked low, light rains over Chennai, TN
As expected, Cyclone Nada has further weakened from a depression into a well-marked low pressure area. The system is presently seen over Interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas.

Nada will continue to move westwards towards Kerala and Interior Kerala and will be weakening gradually. With this, rain belt will also shift in that direction.
However, remnants of the system will continue to give light rain over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Interior Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Weather will remain cloudy over these regions, with strong winds gusting up to 40 kmph.
In fact, light rains have already commenced over Chennai and nearby areas. These showers are likely to continue, particularly southern areas of the city may see some good showers during the next 2-3 hours.
Cyclone Nada crosses Tamil Nadu coast as a depression
As predicted by Skymet Weather, Cyclone Nada has crossed the Tamil Nadu as a depression. Nada was sustaining he strength of deep depression in southwest Bay of Bengal but weakened gradually as the coast approached.
The system crossed the coast near Nagapattinam, around 20 km south of Karaikal during the wee hours of Friday. Moving at a speed of 10 kmph, it is presently centered at 10.8°N and Longitude 79.7°E, about 15 km west of Nagapattinam.
According to Skymet Weather, the system will continue to move inland in west direction and lose more strength gradually. It is likely to weaken into a well-marked low pressure area during the next 12 hours.
Chennai rains to continue even after Cyclone Nada weakens
Chennai will continue to witness good rain and thundershowers even as Cyclone Nada has started losing its strength. All thanks to its proximity to land and increasing vertical wind shear.
Nada is now seen as a deep depression and is presently centered at 10.6N and 81.2ºE, about 290 km south-southeast of Chennai, 210 km southeast of Puducherry and 220 km north of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
The system is expected to continue to move in a west-northwestward direction. Not only this, the weather system is expected to weaken into a depression during the next 24 hours or so. The system will most likely be a depression when it crosses the Tamil Nadu coast and Puducherry, Cuddalore.
While the weather system may be weakening gradually, Chennai rains will continue. In fact, the capital city of Tamil Nadu will continue to witness good rains of varied intensity during the next 24 hours.
Cyclone Nada weakens into deep depression, heavy rains to continue
Losing its strength, Cyclone Nada in southwest Bay of Bengal has weakened into a deep depression. According to Skymet Weather, proximity to land and increasing vertical wind shear did not let the system to sustain its strength.
However, the weakening will not deter the system from giving moderate to heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu. Coastal areas may record very heavy showers as well. Chennai will also continue with moderate to heavy showers during the next 24 hours.
Nada is still moving in southwest Bay of Bengal and lies around 210 km from Puducherry. It is presently centered at 10.6ºN and 81.2ºE, about 280 km south-southeast of Chennai, and 220 km north of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
The system will continue to move in west-northwest direction towards Tamil Nadu coast, south of Puducherry and close to Cuddalore by the late hours of Thursday night of or early morning of Friday.
The system is likely to lose some more strength as it approaches the coast. It is expected to weaken into a depression during the next 24 hours and chances are high that it may cross the coast with the similar intensity.
In span of six hours from 8:30 am till 2:30 pm, Chennai has recorded 34.5 mm of rain, Trichy 23 mm, Tondi 19 mm, Cuddalore 14 mm, Puducherry 11 mm, and Nagapattinam 3 mm.
Meanwhile, the weather system will also give light to moderate rain and thundershowers over parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and parts of Karnataka.
Cyclone Nada gives moderate rains in Chennai, Coastal Tamil Nadu
Moving at a speed of 22 kmph, Cyclone Nada is gradually moving closer to the Indian coast. In wake of this, coastal areas of Tamil Nadu including Chennai and Puducherry have already started recording light to moderate rains.
In span of three hours from 8:30 am to 11: 30 am, Tondi has recorded 14 mm of rain, Cuddalore 11 mm, Chennai 5.5 mm, Karaikal 3 mm, Madurai 2 mm, Pamban 1 mm, and Nagapattinam 1mm.
Further, weather conditions are favourable for the rain activity to intensify further. Meteorologists at Skymet Weather are predicting moderate to heavy rains throughout Thursday. Few places may record spell of very heavy showers as well.
Cyclone Nada is likely to cross the Tamil Nadu coast, somewhere south of Puducherry and close to Cuddalore between late Thursday night and early hours of Friday. However, the weather system is likely to lose intensity as it approaching the land mass.
Cyclone Nada approaches, Chennai, Tamil Nadu on alert
Cyclone Nada in southwest Bay of Bengal has now moved quite closer to the Tamil Nadu. It is presently centered at 10.4°N and 81.8°E, about 350 km south-southeast of Chennai, 270 km east-southeast of Puducherry and 210 km north-northeast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
Moving at a speed of 22 kmph, the system will continue to move in west-northwest direction. In wake of this approaching system, rains and thundershowers have already started lashing several coastal areas of the state.
Chennai has been witnessing light to moderate incessant rains and thundershowers since early morning. Similarly, Nagapattinam, Puducherry, Cuddalore, Pamban and Trichy have also started with good rains.

Intensity of the rains will intensify significantly during the next few hours. Several places may witness heavy to very heavy rains in the next 24 hours. Weathermen predict Cyclone Nada to cross the Tamil Nadu coast, close to Cuddalore by midnight. Wind speed is also likely to pick up pace and coastal areas will witness squally winds with the speed ranging from 50 kmph-60 kmph gusting up to 70 kmph.
Nada has put Tamil Nadu on alert and state government and local authorities have already swung into the action. National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) teams and Indian Defence Forces are on standby.
Red flags have been stalled along the coastline and locals are advised to stay away from the beach side. Authorities have de-silted the drains to avoid flooding due to the heavy rain.
Schools have asked to shut down in the state’s Cuddalore and Nagapattinam districts, and Puducherry for the next two days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as it remains rough to very rough.
