October 12, 2016 6:02 PM |

Low Pressure Area gives three digit rains over Kolkata

Yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over Northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal & Odisha has moved eastwards. This weather system is likely to be seen over South Bangladesh and adjoining Tripura. Due to the yesterday’s system the coastal parts of West Bengal including Kolkata has reached scattered rainfall. These rains were light in nature.

But the present situation shows that there is some improvement in weather. As the system is moving further away from Kolkata and South West Bengal, mainly dry weather is likely to prevail over the region. The sky is expected to remain mainly clear patches of clouds hovering over some parts of the region.

Northerly- Northwesterly winds are likely to prevail over the region for the time being. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Malda received 1.5 mm of rains, Krishnanagar received 6 mm of rains, Kolkata and Sriniketan receive a mere 0.3 mm of rains, Diamond Harbour received 6.2 mm of rains and Digha received a mere 1.6 mm of rains.

The regions that received heavy rains are Cooch Behar 20.6 mm and Darjeeling 88.2 mm. The heavy rains over the north parts of the state were due to the cyclonic circulation persisting over Assam and Meghalaya. Though the cyclonic circulation has weakened but light rains may still happen over the region.
