Low pressure a no show, Northeast Monsoon remains in the dark

November 22, 2016 3:35 PM |

Low pressure a no show, Northeast Monsoon remains in the dark Northeast Monsoon has remained subdued throughout the season. The weather systems that usually are the ray of hope in bringing some rains over the region also developed far away from the South Peninsular parts of the country. The ones that developed near the region were not too effective and failed to bring good rains over the region.

There were chances of some good news in the form of good rains during the next few days, however, that too have seemed to wash away. A low-pressure area was expected to develop in Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka coast, but conditions have become unfavourable now for the formation of the low.

The trough which was expected to induce the low is giving good rains over parts of South Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. However, this weather system is also likely to become insignificant during the next 48 hours or so.

At present, good rains have been lashing parts of South Tamil Nadu only. Scattered showers are also being observed over Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well as Lakshadweep Islands. However, Chennai rains continue to be absent making it the driest November for the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

The could have formed low was the only hope which could revive the Northeast Monsoon from the dead. During the rest of November, the region will continue to witness subdued Monsoon conditions. This year, the performance of Northeast Monsoon has been quite disappointing as compared to the last few years.
