Low Pressure area gives record breaking rains over JamshedpurIt’s been a rainy August so far for several parts of the country and the last 48 hours have been exceptionally good in terms of Monsoon showers. Multiple weather systems have been responsible for such good showers over the region.

The state of Jharkhand has also been lucky enough when it comes to Monsoon rains. Jamshedpur in particular has been receiving moderate to heavy rains for the past 24 hours. In fact, the steel city has witnessed three digit rains during this period.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand has recorded a whopping 124 mm of rain which happens to be the highest 24-hour rains in August in the last six years.

The capital city of Jharkhand, Ranchi has also received good rains of 24 mm during this period. Light rains of 2 mm have been observed over Daltonganj as well.

These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area which is currently over North Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas of Jharkhand. The axis of the Monsoon trough is also passing over the state enhancing the rain activity even further.

During the next 24 hours, Jharkhand is expected to receive more Monsoon rains as the weather system is expected to linger for a little more time. At present, the state of Jharkhand is rainfall deficient by 20 percent falling under the below normal rainfall category.
