More Monsoon rains to lash Andhra Pradesh, to reduce after 24 hours

September 24, 2016 2:26 PM |

rain-in-OdishaModerate to heavy rains have been lashing coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for the last few days. Some places such as Guntur have also recorded extremely heavy rainfall leading to flash floods.

In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Chandbali 54 mm, Paradip 34.5 mm, Balasore 25.4 mm, Kalingapatnam 23 mm, Guntur 20 mm, Jharsuguda 16 mm, Visakhapatnam 15.5 mm, Gopalpur 9 mm, Vijaywada 8.6 mm, Kurnool 8.4 mm and Nellore 4.6 mm.

All thanks to the well-marked low pressure area which has been prevailing over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Now, we expect this weather system to gradually move in northwest direction but at a very slow pace.

With this, good rains will continue over coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Odisha for another 24 hours. Thereafter, intensity will reduce considerably over the region but scattered light rain with few moderate spells will continue over many places.

Further, rains will become subdued over East Coast from September 25 to September 28. Subsequently rains are likely to increase once again.

Weathermen predict that another cyclonic circulation is likely to develop in west-central Bay of Bengal that will infuse fresh Monsoon surge over the coastal parts of East Coast.
