Godzilla rains and gale-force winds literally shook the City of Dreams yesterday. The Maharashtrian city recorded a whopping 337 mm of rainfall in a span of 21 hours, reminding the memories of July 26, 2005. The day when Mumbai deluged in 911 mm of torrents, wreaking havoc among the local, bringing the entire city to a cessation.

These incessant showers hit the metropolis throughout the day. Until now, the city has recorded highest rainfall in a day in August since 1997.
As per reports, at least five were dead in two separate occurrences. Three persons, including two children, were killed in two house collapse incidents in suburbans, while two people died in Thane.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis plead the people in Mumbai and nearby areas to stay home unless there is an emergency.
Indian Navy has opened community kitchens and food counters at various locations in Mumbai to provide relief to rain affected people.
Schools and colleges will remain shut today as well. In fact, CM Devendra Fadnavis has issued instructions to suspend toll collection at all five entry points; Dahisar, Airoli, Mulund Eastern Urban Road, Mulund LBS Marg and Vashi and the Sea Link till situation get under control.
However, weathermen expect rainfall intensity to reduce significantly and only some showers will be recorded during the day. Significant relief is in the offing for suffering Mumbaikars.
