Performance of Northeast Monsoon from November 27 to December 3

Northeast MonsoonNortheast monsoon remains active in the first fortnight of December, causing decent rains in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, South interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh. However, by third week, the peninsula hardly experiences any rain.

The week ending on 3rd December, witnessed poor rainfall. In this article we will take a look at Northeast monsoon’s performance in Peninsular India.

South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh- These three regions received no rain at all in last one week. Thus, rain deficiency stood at 100%.

Kerala- With just 4.4 mm of rain against the average of 12.2 mm, rain deficiency rose to 64% in this state.

Tamil Nadu

In last one week, Tamil Nadu received 20.9 mm of rain against the week’s normal average of 26.7 mm. Rain deficiency stood at 22%.

Though deficiency in this state does not look too grave but the saving grace in Tamil Nadu were the south coastal stations including Nagapattinam, Pamban and Karaikal among other.

North coastal Tamil Nadu received poor rain while in the interiors, most places remained deficit. Overall the state is witnessing an excess of 3% rain, courtesy to good showers in last 10 days of October.

After the first fortnight of December, rainfall will reduce drastically over South interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Extreme southern parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu will still receive some rain.
