Rain in several parts of Peninsular India has brought relief from the scorching heat for the people of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, pre-Monsoon rain is likely to continue for another 3-4 days, pushing temperatures down.
In last couple of days, scanty rainfall was prevalent over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana that led to heatwave like conditions in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and northern parts of Tamil Nadu. Isolated thundershowers were there but not enough for a dip in temperature.
A trough from Jharkhand and Bihar is extending up to the interiors parts of Tamil Nadu, across Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Due to this, pre-Monsoon rain gained momentum and gave moderate to heavy rain in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu in last 24 hours.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, interior Tamil Nadu and interior Karnataka will continue to receive moderate to heavy rain for next 48 hours and by 30th May, rain will increase in Kerala, giving way to timely onset of Monsoon in Kerala.
Scattered showers are likely in Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, which is expected to help heat wave abate from these parts after one or two days.
As rain activity gain momentum over time, temperatures are expected to drop marginally in parts of Peninsular India.
