Pune records 103 mm rainfall in just 12 hours, breaks all-time record

Rain in PuneWeather in Pune has shifted gears all of a sudden. The city of Pune has recorded 103 mm rainfall in just 12 hours time. This is Pune's new all-time record for rainfall measured over 24 hours. From 8.30 am to 8.30 pm today, the city has witnessed heavy rainfall and conditions are favorable for more rain. Day temperature did touch the mid 30s in Pune today, but a fall of around 10 degrees has been recorded due to the rains.

Most of this rain was received in the evening. This was mainly after 5.00 pm IST. The conditions were so inclement that even two flights were diverted during this period. But overall conditions have now improved and flights are being allowed to land in Pune.

Pune's previous all-time record for highest rainfall in 24 hours was 82.5 mm. This was back in 1927 on May 31. Moreover, in last 10 years, the highest rainfall recorded in the city in 24 hours was just 44 mm. This was on May 31 in 2006. Also, there have been years when the highest rainfall record for 24 hours in Pune has settled around 10 mm. In 2013, the highest rainfall record for 24 hours in Pune in the month of May was 0 mm.

As mentioned, temperatures had touched the mid 30s in Pune today. But incessant rain has caused the temperatures to plummet. A fall of nearly 10 degrees has already been recorded and conditions have become extremely pleasant. Currently, the temperature in Pune is settling in the 20s. The city is expected to receive more rain which is expected to push the rainfall record for 24 hours even higher.
