February 27, 2015 12:57 PM |

Nagpur seems to be heading towards summer season quite early this season, as maximum temperatures are settling well above normal by four to five degrees for the last few days.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the day temperatures have registered significant rise in absence of weather activity over the region. The city has recorded only 8 mm of rain in February against the monthly average of 18 mm.

On February 26, Nagpur recorded maximum temperature five degrees above normal at 36.1°C, against the normal of 31.3°C. Similarly on February 25, day temperature was at 36.7°C, again six degrees above normal. On February 24, maximum was at 36.5°C, five degrees above normal, on February 23, maximum was at 36.1°C, five degrees above normal and on February 22, maximum was at 36°C, five degrees above normal.

Prior to this, the city had recorded maximum temperature above 36°C only twice, 39°C on February 28, 2009 and 37.3°C on February 29, 2012.

The city generally receives rain on account of cyclonic circulations travelling over Gujarat and adjoining region. However, this year the frequency of these systems have been very few, resulting in less rain.

According to the latest forecast, people of Nagpur will get some respite from scorching heat, as city is expected to witness light rain after next 24 hours, which will continue till next 48 hours thereafter.

Series of systems moving across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Gujarat region along with a low level trough over southern peninsular will be giving short spell of rain over the city.

Nagpur city is located right in the center of the country, with almost same distance from the coast from either side. Due its geographical conditions, the city does not witness significant weather activities and thus remains hot.
