Rain in Uttarakhand, Himachal to continue; landslides, cloudbursts expected

The hills of North India have been witnessing rainfall activities for quite some time. In fact, in the past 24 hours also, moderate to heavy showers have already occurred over many parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Mandi recorded a whopping 56 mm of rains, Una 37 mm, Shimla 48 mm, Dehradun 37 mm, Tehri 16 mm, Mukteshwar Kumaon 13 mm, Pantnagar 4 mm and Banihal 8 mm.

Now, low pressure is persisting over central parts of Uttar Pradesh. A Western Disturbance in the form of a cyclonic circulation is also persisting over Jammu and Kashmir. Along with this, the axis of Monsoon trough is also running via Uttar Pradesh.

Now, during the next 24 hours also, rains are likely over the hills of North India. Himachal Pradesh is expected to witness moderate showers while the state of Jammu and Kashmir will observe light to moderate rains only.

Meanwhile, intensity of rains will be higher over Uttarakhand. In fact, moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy showers are expected over Uttarakhand. Incidents of cloudbursts are also possible which may trigger flash floods and landslides over the state of Uttarakhand which may wreak havoc over the region.
