Rain intensity to reduce over Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Since the last ten days, the weather of Tamil Nadu remained almost dry. It seemed as if rain had abated the state. The weather had become very warm and humid across the state. As per Skymet Weather, an off shore trough feeble trough persists over East coast and a cyclonic circulation is over West central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Coast.

Due to these combined weather systems, good rains have occurred over many parts of the state. In the past 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Arogyam witnessed 74 mm, Tirupati 58 mm, Tiruchirapalli 36. 1 mm, Tirupattur 29 mm, Kodaikanal 24. 5 mm, Salem 18.8 mm, Madurai 12.6 mm and Dharmapuri 15 mm of rain.

It is anticipated that scattered rain will continue over many parts of Tamil Nadu for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the weather will once again become dry and another good spell of rain is expected over the state including Chennai around August 5 and these rains would continue till August 7.

At present the state is rain deficit by 26 percent and the rain deficiency is not likely to reduce as heavy to very heavy rains are not likely over the state. Light to moderate intensity showers will occur in the coming weekend. Not much difference in the warm and humid weather will be seen and discomfort level will prevail till August 5 as the temperatures will be in higher 30’s.
