Rains to knock on Delhi on Republic Day

New Delhi is all set to host the 68th Republic Day celebrations on January 26. However, rains are likely play spoil sport during the gala event.

According to Skymet Weather, national capital is expected to witness first spell of good winter rains that will commence during the next 24 hours.

A fresh Western Disturbance is seen over Jammu and Kashmir, while its induced cyclonic circulation can be seen over Central Pakistan. This cyclonic circulation is likely to move gradually towards east direction over Punjab and adjoining Rajasthan. A trough is also likely to extend from Kutch region to Punjab, changing the wind pattern to southwesterly winds.

These winds will bring moisture from Arabian Sea and due to the combined effect of southwesterly winds and induced cyclonic circulation, good rains will occur over northwest plains of the country including Delhi-NCR.

We expect cloudy weather to show up by January 25, followed by rain and thundershowers during the evening hours. Delhi is likely to see light rains on Wednesday. Both the spread and intensity of rains and thundershowers will increase significantly and moderate rains are likely to lash several parts of Delhi on January 26.

Rains will take a back seat by January 27 as the cyclonic circulation will move away in east direction. By the evening of January 27, weather will clear up over the national capital.

During this time, day temperatures will fall significantly by 3-5 degrees, leading to cold day conditions. Meanwhile, minimum temperatures may rise by 2-3°C in the next 48 hours.
